Welcome Back!
It’s no secret … EVERYONE wants more energy…
For me, it means being in a better mood, which may seem like a small thing, but it’s not …
Especially if you suffer from gut issues, being in a good mood is a SUPERPOWER!
Think about it ..
EVERYTHING is easier in your day-to-day life when you’re in a good mood.
Right?
And it’s not a question of having more willpower, either; it’s a question of having more energy.
That’s why recently we’ve been running down some of my favorite DIY ways to naturally generate more energy using Foods, Supplements, and Practices that recharge your cells …
Last time, we discussed how movement creates energy – simple exercises like walking or stretching and more advanced systems like yoga, Pilates, or dance …
So be sure to revisit Move Your Body, Fuel Your Body! If you need a quick recap because …
This time, I want to revisit another often-overlooked source of energy you should be tapping into every day …
The Sun!
Did you know that certain ”materials” emit electrons when exposed to sunlight, generating energy?
It’s called the “Photoelectric Effect,” and it was discovered by none other than Albert Einstein himself in 1905, earning him his only Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921.
Now, there are all kinds of theories about the quantum nature of light and electrons, but none of that matters for the purposes of boosting your energy …
All you need to know is that one of those “materials” that gives off electrical energy when exposed to light is your skin and other tissues!
Harnessing the healing power of the sun was called “Heliotherapy” in ancient Greece, and every major civilization has practiced it in one form or another …
Today it’s called “Photobiomodulation;” which is a fancy term for absorbing sunlight through your skin to generate energy …
Even if the light doesn’t penetrate all the way to your deep organs, your friendly fascia will pick up the spare electrical power generated by your skin and route it to wherever it’s needed in your body …
20 minutes a day of full sunlight on 60% of your body or more is ideal.
And these days, it may be more important than ever. Why?
Well, believe it or not …
This is a disturbing figure. I mean …
No WONDER everyone is so dang tired all the time; they never get outside and charge up their “body batteries” with the sun.
Now, I know what you’re thinking …
I live in a cold climate, what the heck am I supposed to do?
I would seriously consider investing in a red light/near infrared light panel and use it for at least 20 minutes every morning – say, 10 minutes both front and back in the nude.
Full spectrum raw sunlight is best, of course, but red light and near infrared act the same way, so a light panel is a great resource in a pinch …
However, not just any light will do …
Photobiomodulation is only possible within a certain wavelength range on the light spectrum, so make sure your panel produces light from 600-1000 nanometers.
This range is known as the “mitochondrial stimulation band,” or healing band.
Only these wavelengths of light stimulate the cellular mitochondrial light receptor enzyme. It encompasses both Red Light (600-700nm) and a portion of Near Infrared Light (NIR) (700-1500nm).
Again, all you need is 20 minutes per day, either in the morning or in late afternoon:
Whether indoors or out, here are some basic rules of thumb to consider …
Now, you may already know that sunlight exposure on the upper chest and back upregulates beneficial hormone and neurotransmitter production and Vitamin D, but …
Did you know that sunlight also acts as an anti-inflammatory in your body?
You see, when photons from the sun penetrate your body, they donate energy directly to your cell’s electrons, which produces antioxidant activity and helps reduce inflammation.
Cool, huh?

AND get outside and get as much direct sun on your body as you can, as often as you can!
While you’re at it, throw in some Movement-Based Exercise to really charge up your “Body Battery” …
You’ll have twice the energy and be in a much better mood!
If that’s not a SUPERPOWER, I don’t know what is …
