It’s a style of eating that was popular in the kettlebell community at the time called One Meal A Day (OMAD) from “The Warrior Diet” by Ori Hofmeckler.
Back then, I was really struggling and always super tired after eating lunch – a huge productivity killer – and people I worked out with told me I could get all-day energy if I made the switch …
Well, you know what? It worked great, and I’ve stuck with it for over 13 years!
These days, various forms of “intermittent fasting” are mainstream, so people don’t look at you like you’re a crazy person (as much) for time-restricted eating anymore …
The interesting thing isn’t so much the benefits of it, but the fact that the book I read all those years ago got hardly any credit for what became a HUGE trend …
The pioneers take the arrows, as they say …
Hofmeckler was the first to popularize the idea of intermittent fasting, but he was too early and possibly a little too extreme to experience widespread success with the idea …
Which leads me to another recently-published book I just finished that falls into the same category …
It marks the very beginning of a radical idea that I’m sure will later find widespread acceptance …
Even if it’s in a more diluted form, just like one meal a day turned into two meals a day for most forms of intermittent fasting …
And like “The Warrior Diet,” there’s only one simple idea in this book …
Which, as I said last time, is EXTREMELY radical; however …
Now that I’ve read it, I’m enthusiastic about it’s basic premise:
Dry Fasting.
Like it sounds, you don’t eat any food for up to 7-11 days …
AND – here’s the kicker – you also don’t drink any water, either!
Crazy, right?
Well, that said, if you’re dealing with a health condition you would like to heal…
Or just feel like you need an extreme cleanout…
Then you should consider giving it a shot. Here’s why …
The reasons for both are complex biochemical pathways only activated during a dry fast.
Think of it this way …
Most people know that sleep is when the body recovers and heals itself …
Well – you guessed it – sleep is essentially a short dry fast.
It’s the only type of fasting that massively activates and deploys stem cells throughout your whole body, healing stubborn health conditions nothing else has responded to.
It’s pretty wild.
The book is called “The Phoenix Protocol” by August Dunning, a NASA space station engineer working on how to protect astronauts from radiation damage during long-duration space flights …
After uncovering Russian research that proved dry fasting reverses cellular radiation damage, he tried it himself and was so impressed with the results that he devised his own protocol …
So, if you have a chronic health condition or feel like you’re running “sluggish” and need a reset, I suggest reading Dunning’s book, or at least checking him out on YouTube.
He delivers the information in a very matter-of-fact, succinct manner – with zero fluff!
If fasting of any kind intrigues you, then his book is worth the read, big time.
Even if you only ever plan on “normal” fasts, you’ll learn what NOT to do and have greater confidence going in.
