Just like the air-cleaning-plants we talked about, there’s another cheap household upgrade you can make that will have a dramatic impact on your health every day.
You see, we all have another “hidden in plain sight” source of toxins in our daily lives.
Chances are you never thought about it before, but it’s your shower.
Most of us are pretty careful about the water we drink, but do you know what is in the water you shower with every day?
For example, if you shower in chlorinated water, then this toxic chemical vaporizes and rapidly absorbs straight into your body through your skin and lungs.
In less than a minute, it’s in your bloodstream and circulating throughout your entire body, wreaking havoc in amounts far higher than you would get from drinking a couple glasses of chlorinated tap water.
When you drink it, your body at least has a chance to filter out the toxin through normal processes.
However, in a hot shower, it goes straight into your bloodstream – no filter.
In case it’s unclear why chlorine is bad to absorb into your body, think of it this way:
Needless to say, this is not something you want operating unchecked in your body on a cellular level. I’ll explain why in a second.
Just don’t panic. As I said before, there’s a simple, relatively inexpensive way to fix this …
Filter the water in your shower!
Chances are you already filter your drinking water at the faucet or in your refrigerator, right?
The first step to improving the quality of the water in your home is finding out what your water company uses to disinfect your water supply.
You can find their annual test results posted online; it’s required by law.
This will tell you if they use Chlorine or Chloramine, its nasty cousin:
3 bad things Chlorine & Chloramine do in your body:
1.Disrupt your skin microbiome, drying it out and aging it faster
2. Disrupt your gut microbiome, killing beneficial gut bacteria
3. Compete with Iodine in your body, causing thyroid problems and brain fog
Chloramine is chlorine with ammonia added to it – really nasty stuff.
You MUST know which one your water company uses so you get the right shower filter.
If your water company uses chlorine, pretty much any shower filter will do; Aqua Sana makes a good one.
If they use Chloramine, and many of them do now, you need a Vitamin C shower filter to neutralize it. Sorry, but I haven’t found one that I feel comfortable recommending yet.
So, if you are currently using a Vitamin C shower filter, I would love to hear from you!
In addition to standard shower filters for Chlorine or vitamin C filters for Chloramine, you can also use a structured water showerhead.
I use both – a filter in line with a structured water showerhead.
Basically, a standard shower filter uses Chemistry to remove most of the contaminants while a structured water device uses Physics.
Even the best chemistry-based solution won’t remove all toxins, which is where structured water shower devices come in; they restore water to its native, ordered state.
I own two different shower devices from The Wellness Enterprise, a good one to start with is the Natural Action Technologies, which will work in line with a chemistry-based filter as well.
Like I said, the first step is figuring out what specific toxins you’re dealing with, then choose the appropriate filter, showerhead, or combination thereof.
It could be that simple. Again, you wouldn’t drink chlorine, so why shower in it every day?
Just be sure to use structured water and/or a filter when you water your new friends – the Bedroom Plant, Pothos, and the Areca Palm – like we talked about before.
And you might want to give them names of their own; a good friend would!
To Your Better Health,
